Lot Essay

Cf. Felix. M., White Gold, Black Hands, Ivory Sculpture in Congo, Vol.2, 2011, p.254, ill.134 pour un pendentif conservé au Musée Royal d'Afrique Centrale, Tervuren (inv.EO.01953.74.6144).
D'après Vivianne Baeke (White Gold, Black Hands, Ivory Sculpture in Congo, Vol.2, 2011), ce type d'ikhoko s'inspirerait d'un masque très ancien appelé gambuya ga malela qui se portait en cimier, à l'horizontal. Ce dernier se distingue par un prolongement mentonnier et par une ornementation sculptée en triangle sur le haut du crâne.
