Lot Essay

After a medal commemorating Admiral Vernon's victory in the 1739 battle for the Spanish West Indies colony of Portobello. Although similar to the Cape Town Harbor plates, this subject is rarer. An example in the Benjamin F Edwards III Collection was sold Christie's, New York, 26 January 2010, lot 8.
