Lot Essay

Gieves & Hawkes came into being in 1974 at No. 1 Savile Row with the merging of Gieves and Co. (est. 1852) and Hawkes and Co. (est. 1771), the military clothing companies founded by James Gieve and Thomas Hawkes. The merging of Gieves and Hawkes continued the tradition of great historical Military and Naval tailors.
