Lot Essay

This finely cast mantel clock is a 19th century copy of Boulle's varied model known as 'Pendule aux Harpies' after a design by Jean Bérain. The stylized dial signature refers to Maison Baguès which was founded in 1840 by Noel Baguès who cast liturgical bronzes from premises at 31, Rue des Francs-Bourgeois, Paris. In 1880, Eugène Baguès joined his father in business and started to produce bronze objets d'art and high quality lighting fixtures for which Maison Baguès became world-renowned.
