Lot Essay

This chandelier is after the model attributed to André-Charles Boulle in the collection of the Louvre. Of identical overall form it differs in that the celestial globe is surmounted not, as here, by a figure of Neptune, but by a winged figure of Fame holding a trumpet (see D. Alcouffe, et. al., Gilt bronzes in the Louvre, Dijon, 2004, no. 7, p. 34).
