Lot Essay

François Léon Sicard (d.1934) studied under Barrias and Félix Laurent. He won the Prix de Rome in 1891 and a gold medal at the Universal Exhibition of 1900. A cast of Oedipus and the Sphinx Apollo was exhibited at the Salon of 1903 and was subsequently acquired by the Musée du Luxembourg in the same year. Another cast is in the collection of the Musée d'Orsay.
