Li Xubai was born in Fujian and lived in Hong Kong before moving to Toronto. While he initially studied oil painting, he switched to traditional style and studied with Liu Heng in the 1960s. While Li Xubai's artistic style is distinctive and modern, his works are deeply informed by Chinese poetry and culture.
