Shown seated on a rectangular bench raised on a shaped platform and holding an ingot in his right hand, wearing layered robes, the outer garment with incised foliate borders falling in loose folds and gathered in front with a buckle where the undergarment can be seen to be 'embroidered' with a crane flying amidst clouds above a tasseled cord tied in a bow, the face cast with benevolent expression beneath a scholar's hat

Cai Shen, also referred to as Zhao Gongming, is known as a god of wealth, and is venerated in both the Daoist and Buddhist traditions. He is often seen dressed as an official and holding an ingot, as can be seen in the present bronze figure.
