A WHITE AND RUSSET JADE ARCHAISTIC PENDANT
18TH/19TH CENTURY
Carved in the shape of an archaistic axe with a phoenix standing on one side, with an openwork dragon at the top on the reverse and another bird along one of the edges, with added russet color, suspended from a silk cord with a white and russet jade bead carved as two cats; together with three jade pendants: one in the shape of a lock, one a coiled dragon and one a bi pierced by a gui tablet flanked by dragons
Pendant 2 3/8 in. (6 cm.) long; pendants 2½, 2 and 2 7/16 in. (6.4, 5 and 6.2 cm.) across (4)

Axe-form pendant: Gunn-Latchford, Inc., New York; by repute from a private collection acquired in Beijing, 1915-1925.
