Lot Essay

The seal on the present screen, Yu, appears to be the seal of Li Yucheng, who was a porcelain carver active in the Daoguang period. A biscuit porcelain brushpot carved by Li Yucheng, and bearing a four-character seal of the artist, is illustrated by T. Miller and H. Hui in Elegance in Relief, Hong Kong, 2006, pp. 144-5, no. 31.
