The second modern world map in Fries's Ptolemaic atlas. A reduced version of the corresponding map in Waldseemüller's atlas of 1513, it shows only parts of the Americas at the very west of the map. 'One of the earliest world maps available to a collector', states Shirley, 'an unsophisticated but attractive rendering of what was generally known of the world at that time'. Shirley 52.
