Lot Essay

A closely related stag-carved mirror bearing the maker's label of John Bennett, Cork was sold from An Iberian Collection, Part II, Christie's, London, 9 December 2011, lot 532. Bennett is listed as 'Carver & Gilder' at 110 George's Street in Pigot & Co.'s Directory for Cork City in 1824; and later at 46 George's Street in 1845.
