Lot Essay

This image, made in Hampstead, London, in 1945, is among the very earliest of the nude studies that Brandt pursued as a project that culminated, after fifteen years, in the anthology, Perspective of Nudes, published in 1961. It is emblematic of a series of dramatically lit studies in evocative interiors that characterise his obsessions at this time.

Gift of Rose Gallery, Santa Monica.
