JIAQING IRON-RED SIX-CHARACTER SEAL MARKS AND OF THE PERIOD (1796-1820)
The exterior of each dish is finely enamelled with four cartouches containing characters for the greeting wan shou wu jiang, 'boundless longevity'. The cartouches are surrounded by lotus flowers on leafy scrolls, supporting the Eight Buddhist Emblems, bajixiang. The interior of each dish is painted with five bats in flight encircling a stylised shou character.
