A WUCAI 'CRANES' JAR AND COVER
KANGXI PERIOD (1662-1722)
The jar is potted with a slightly splayed foot, painted around the rounded body depicting four cranes with outspread wings, red crests and feathers in green, turquoise and aubergine, each separated by two of the Babao, Eight Treasures, amid colourful cloud scrolls above a lappet border around the foot rim. The shoulder is adorned with peony and chrysanthemum scrolls under a tapering neck decorated with a lappet border. The bell-shaped cover with a bud-shaped finial is further painted with three of the Eight Treasures. The base to the cover and jar are unglazed.
