The bowl is potted with deep curved sides rising to a straight rim, enamelled in bright tones with four roundels containing vases with auspicious flowers and ears of grain, beside lanterns and precious objects outlined in gilt and reserved on a yellow ground with fruiting and flowering gourd vines. The white-ground interior has similar dense designs to the exterior. Both inner and outer rims are encircled by keyfret.

The lantern and ears of grain form the rebus, Wugu fengdeng, 'May there be a bumper harvest of the five grains'. An almost identical pair dating to the late 19th century, formerly in the Pope Collection, is illustrated by G. Lang, The Powell-Cotton Collection of Chinese Ceramics, England, 1988, p. 57, no. 66.
