A SMALL CARVED BAMBOO INCENSE CONTAINER
QING DYNASTY, 18TH CENTURY
The cylindrical body of the container is finely carved in deep relief and openwork to depict a continuous landscape, detailed with the scholars engaging in various leisurely activities including playing chess and conversing, before a pavilion, lush bamboo groves, pine and wutong trees emerging from rocky outcrops. The mouth and foot are mounted with bone caps.
