FIRST EDITION, PRESENTATION COPIES of volumes I & III to Paul Maze, the Anglo-French painter (1887-1979). Maze served in both the French and British armies in World War I, and joined the British army again in the Second World War. Churchill became a close friend and a great admirer of his work, contributing the foreword to the catalogue of Maze's first New York exhibition in 1939. Woods A40(a).
