CHURCHILL, Winston Spencer (1874-1965). Marlborough His Life and Times. London: George G. Harrap, 1933-1938. 4 volumes, 8° (231 x 154mm). Plates and maps, some folding, illustrations. (Half-title and frontispiece to vols. I and III spotted, vol. II with fore-edge to one folding map protruding and a little rubbed.) Original plum cloth, spines titled in gilt, Marlborough arms in gilt on sides, top edges gilt (vol. I with soiling to spine and light stains on covers, rear cover of vol. III slightly discoloured), dust-jackets to volumes II and IV (the former frayed). Provenance: Volume I a presentation copy to 'Paul Maze from Winston Churchill Oct. 1933' (inscription on half-title). Volume III also inscribed 'to Paul Maze from Winston Churchill Christmas 1937' (on front free endpaper).

Maze served in both the French and British armies in World War I, and joined the British army again in the Second World War.
