Lot Essay

Edward Wolfe (1897-1982) was born and brought up in South Africa. He moved to London in 1916 to study at the Slade (1916-1918). Nina Hamnett asked him to join the Omega Workshops in 1917 and he first exhibited with them in 1918 at the time when this work was painted.
