A SPANISH 18-BORE MIQUELET-LOCK BELT PISTOL
SECOND QUARTER OF THE 18TH CENTURY
With two-stage barrel with chiselled girdle, the octagonal breech-section carved with scrolls, some retaining silver inlay, and struck with two maker's marks (possibly for Alonzo Martinez), scroll engraved iron tang, shaped engraved flat bevelled lock signed 'S. DARMENTE', figured walnut full stock carved with scrollwork along the fore-end, engraved brass mounts including spurred pommel and solid side-plate, iron belt-hook, pierced shaped brass escutcheon engraved with a classical bust, later horn fore-end cap, and later iron ramrod with brass tip (iron parts cleaned bright, some wear to brass mounts, minor defects to stock)
