TUNISIA, DATED 17 JUMADA I AH 1240/7 JANUARY 1825 AD
Gouache heightened with gold on vellum, of large rectangular form with triangular headpiece, four rectangular cartouches each with 8ll. of elegant sepia maghribi script with words highlighted in green, purple, blue and gold and punctuated with gilt and polychrome roundels, four large headings in naskh on gold ground, all set inside wide margin of interlacing palmettes on with scrolling flowering vine punctuated with thin bands of elegant geometric strapwork, in very good condition

Lot Essay

This document is the marriage certificate of Abu 'Abdullah Husayn Pasha Bey to Fatima, his first wife. The last bands of gold which divide the text records the bride's receipt of a dowery (mahr) of 1,000 riyals.
