Qur'an I, sura al-fatiha, Arabic manuscript on paper, with 7ll. of elegant foliated kufic, the first line in white against a floral gold illuminated ground, the rest in black, all contained within cartouches formed of alternating rectangular and ogival panels of illumination in gold in archaistic style, similar blue panels of illumination to either side, mounted, framed and glazed

Lot Essay

The final line, written in white kufic contains the words, sadaqa allah al-azim wa sadaqa rasuluhu al-karim katabahu wa dhahhabahu al-kibar (?), 'God the Mighty and his noble Prophet spoke the truth, the Great Men (?) wrote it and illuminated it'.
