Lot Essay

This form is first referenced in the Sèvres archives in 1768. In 1771 the listed value of the model was 156 livres, though the sales records note a pair sold to Madame Victoire for 864 livres on 18 September 1773. For a pair of vases of this form, possibly the pair owned by Mme. Victoire, in the collection of Queen Elizabeth II, see. G. de Bellaigue, French Porcelain in the Collection of Her Majesty the Queen, vol. I, London, 2009, pp. 335-336, no. 74.
