THE GAME BOOK, HANDSOMELY BOUND, OF CRICKETER FREDERICK HERVEY-BATHURST, WITH SPLENDID BORDERS BY ALKEN, recording the kill at Clarendon Park for 27 seasons, 1838 to 1865. Visitors are noted, including, fellow cricketer Thomas Chamberlayne, and Lord Frederick Gordon, with various observations: 'the snow so deep we could not shoot', 'poor little Nelly was shot', 'Stanley shot most infamously', 'Villiers could not get near a bird', etc., and unusual catch, including otter, hawk, and a 10.5lb hare; 1846 was a particularly violent year for rabbits, with 2838 shot. Sir Frederick played for Hampshire and the Marylebone Cricket Club.
