[CRUIKSHANK, George (1792-1878) and CRUIKSHANK, Robert (1789-1856).] The New Bon Ton Magazine; or, Telescope of the Times. London: J. Johnston, 1818-1821. 6 volumes, 4° (210 x 130mm). 32 hand-coloured engraved plates. (Light spotting mostly in the text margins but affecting a few plates, a few small repairs in the text margins, one title repaired in the inside margin, two plates shaved by the binder and another repaired at outer margin.) Red morocco by W. Root & Son, spines gilt in compartments, sides gilt with triple fillet frame and corner ornaments, top edge gilt, gilt inner dentelles (extremities and joints lightly rubbed).
FIRST EDITIONS. A COMPLETE RUN OF THIS SATIRICAL PERIODICAL, WITH ALL THE PLATES, including 'The Boxing Baroness' which is sometimes lacking. The plates, though mostly unsigned, are probably by the Cruikshank brothers, and Charles Williams. The New Bon Ton followed closely the model of The Scourge, which had ceased publication in 1816.
