ESTAMPILLE DE CLAUDE-CHARLES SAUNIER, DERNIER QUART DU XVIIIEME SIECLE
En placage de citronnier, de satiné et filets de bois teinté, ornementation de bronze ciselé et doré, le dessus de marbre blanc, muni d'un gradin surmonté de deux vantaux en partie vitrés, le cylindre à décor d'une réserve, révélant un plateau coulissant gainé de cuir vert doré aux petits fers, trois tiroirs et deux compartiments, la ceinture ouvrant par trois tiroirs dont un muni d'un coffre fort, les pieds fuselés, estampillé C.C. SAUNIER sous la traverse gauche ; restaurations

Ce bureau est caractéristique de l'oeuvre de Claude-Charles Saunier qui a produit des petits meubles d'une très grande élégance, en particulier grâce à l'usage du bois de citronnier.
Notre bureau est à rapprocher de deux autres exemplaires. L'un a fait partie de la collection de Madame Saint André (vente Galerie Charpentier, Paris, 21 mai 1935, lot 162 ; il est illustré dans Jean Nicolay, L'art et la manière des maîtres ébénistes français au XVIIIème siècle, Editions Pygmalion, Paris, 1986, p. 427, Fig. F.). Le second fait partie des collections de Charlotte Béatrice de Rothschild et de Maurice Ephrussi dans leur villa de Saint-Jean-Cap-Ferrat (maintenant propriété de l'Institut de France).
