Meiji Period (late 19th century)
Decorated in iroe-hiramaki-e, hirame and mura-nashiji on a nashiji ground and comprising a four-tier stacking box with a continuous scene of courtiers approaching a pavillion with further courterirs eating a meal, and a lady beside a stream; a removable tray decorated with ladies beside a well; a removable box decorated with open and closed fans and red lacquer interior; the outer case with sides cut away forming a frame similarly decorated with two warriers fighting and with copper handle with cherry blossom fittings, two metal sake flasks in stand
