Pétrus--Vintage 1955
Pomerol, cru exceptionnel
All slightly corroded capsules, three slightly damaged. Three bin-soiled and stained labels, one slightly damaged. Levels: one top, six upper, four mid/upper and one mid-shoulder. In carton
Tasting Note: Five notes, from a tannin-laden magnum in 1967; 'huge', 'velvety', 'suede textured' through the 1970s. 'Magnificent but not Médoc' in 1983 - which shows my old school bias! A good, powerful bottle at John Jenkins' Bordeaux Club dinner in 1993. More recently, less deep in colour, more mature, more evolved - yet, despite its richness, still tannic. Last tasted at Ziegler's memorable Saturday tasting in Dec 1995 **** M.B.
