8° (222 x 140mm). EXTRA ILLUSTRATED with a pen, ink, and gouache drawing signed 'Benkendorff' in cyrillic, window-mounted as a front free endpaper. Contemporary cream leather, the upper side centred with a crowned cipher onlaid in black and red leather and gilt, white moiré silk endpapers (rebacked). Provenance: 'M.V.' or 'V.M.' (cipher with Russian grand-ducal crown) -- Yasha Bunchuk (1896-1944, musician; sold, Parke-Bernet Galleries, New York, 17 March 1945, lot 285).

IN A NOBLE BINDING TOGETHER WITH AN ORIGINAL WATERCOLOUR, showing perhaps an Okhtensky pupil, signed 'Benkendorff' -- probably Dmitrii Aleksandrovich Benkendorff (1845-1917), president of the Society of Water-Colourists, and member of the Imperial Academy of Arts.
