FIRST EDITION. ANASTASIIA NIKOLAEVNA'S COPY, YOUNGEST DAUGHTER OF TSAR NICHOLAS II, WITH HER OWNERSHIP SIGNATURE AND WITH THE PLATES COLOURED BY A CONTEMPORARY HAND, possibly the Grand Duchess herself. Charskaia's many novels were hugely popular with young girls in Russia at the time, who could relate to the central characters, usually young women in search of adventure, or important women in history. The present novel continues the adventures of the young Georgian Princess Nina, begun in Charskaia's most beloved book, Princess Dzhavakha (1903). (See also lot 25.)
