EDUCATION -- Cinquième Rapport de L'Ecole, établie en Faveur des enfans pauvres parmi les étrangers, qui se trouvent a St. Pétersbourg. St. Petersburg: N. Gretsch, 1827.
8° (205 x 130mm). Contemporary green morocco, spine, sides and edges gilt (spine expertly repaired). Provenance: Tsarskoe Selo (stamp) -- Plaza Auction, New York (sold, 21-24 November 1933, lot 133).
THE TSARSKOE SELO COPY. The school was founded by Alexander I in 1821, and continued to receive the patronage of Nicholas I, and the support of his wife Alexandra, and the Empress Mother Maria Feodorovna. The list of donors includes a high proportion of Scottish and English individuals, some of whom prospered in the imperial capital, including General Alexander Wilson.
