FIRST EDITION. ALEXANDER II'S COPY of Pölitz's best known of his very many publications, a pioneering comparative survey of the fundamental laws and constitutions recently introduced in America and the various European states. The subject of consitutional reform was particularly dear to Alexander II, the 'Tsar-Liberator'. Initially conceived in two volumes, as here, though two further volumes were published in 1820 and 1825. (2)
