NICHOLAS II -- A pale-green silk and velvet embroidered document pouch. Russia, circa 1890.

The rectangular ribbed silk body (515 x 470mm) with tapering gusset inset with a pen pouch, the slightly rounded triangular velvet flap embroidered with river-pearls and two-colour gold threads in varied foliate and floral motifs, the upper section in a reserve embroidered with the cypher of the Tsarevich Nicholas Alexandrovich surmounted by the gold-thread, silver-beaded and sequined Imperial crown, the flap bordered by a silver-thread twisted rope-work edging, the body with a round yellow and blue stone toggle. Provenance: Nicholas II of Russia (binding).
