NICHOLAS II, Emperor of Russia (1894-1917). Document signed 'Nikolai', with other members of the Imperial family, and other dignitaries, on the 250th anniversary of the founding of a regiment, n.p., 1 June 1903, 2 pages on one leaf, 8° (218 x 150mm.)
Among the other signatures are the Christian names, without patronymic, of the dowager empress Maria Feodorovna, the empress Alexandra Feodorovna, with grand dukes and duchesses Konstantin, Mikhail, Ksenia, Mikhail, Alexander, Militsa, Andrei, Maria, Georgii, Anastasia, and Georgii on the first side, with Kirill, Boris, Petr and Sergei, with Duke Mikhail Georgievich Meklenburgskii and two others on the second.
The year 1653 had seen the reorganisation of the Russian army by Tsar Alexis, who was again threatened with aggression from Poland-Lithuania, as well as Sweden. June of that year had seen fifteen days of manoeuvres to strengthen their ability. War with Poland broke out the next year.
