Lot Essay

The form of the present table, with aprons inset with reticulated panels, can be readily found in huanghuali and zitan furniture of the early-mid Qing dynasty, and the form occurs in both square and rectangular tables. An example of the former is illustrated by Tian Jiaqing et.al. in Classic Chinese Furniture of the Qing Dynasty, London, 1996, p. 171, no. 73. An example of the latter rectangular type can be seen on a larger (146 cm.) zitan table, in the collection of the Palace Museum, illustrated in Ming Qing Gong Ting Jia Ju Da Guan, Beijing, 2006, p. 184, no. 192.
