FIRST EDITION of poetry by members of the Pléiade, notably Ronsard, Du Bellay, Baïf and Dorat. It emanates from Latin verses by the daughters of Edward Seymour, 1st Duke of Somerset, honouring the memory of Marguerite de Valois, Queen of Navarre, which had been published the previous year. They were then taken up by Nicolas Denizot, comte d'Alsinois, the sisters' French tutor in London, and poets of the Pléiade, translated into Greek, Italian and French and augmented by original works. Among the contributions are an ode to the Seymour sisters by Ronsard and verses by Robert Hay on the portrait of Marguerite. Brunet V, 879; Tchemerzine VII, 388.
