ATTRIBUTED TO THE PROVIDENCE PAINTER, CIRCA 470 B.C.
The obverse with a nude diskobolos "feeling his feet" in profile to the right, a diskos held forth, adjusting his grip, his right arm straight, his fingers curled around its outer edge, supported by his slightly bent left arm, his left leg bent, his right extending forward, three javelins stuck in the ground behind him, tied with a red ribbon, a pickaxe beside his right foot, an aryballos and a strigil hanging before him, a band of stopt meander and crossed-squares below; the reverse with a bearded trainer in backview, his head in profile to the left, wearing a red ivy wreath in his hair and a himation draped over his left shoulder, a forked stick in his extended right hand; a band of stopt meander below
