Lot Essay

Wu Shomo, a native of She County, Anhui Province, was a well-known ink maker in the early Qing dynasty, who named his workshop Yanluzhai. As a tradition among Chinese ink makers, the subsequent generation that had been handed over the practice would continue the use of the name of the master and the name of the workshop, as is this the case with the present example, which bears the signature of Wu Shomo but with a Qianlong period date.
