Lot Essay

This nude study combines all the features that constitute the particular appeal of Dupas's work - the supreme sophistication, the anatomical stylizations in the manner of Ingres, and modeling suggested with very considerable delicacy. Traces of water staining confirm that this work was in the artist's studio at the time of the fire.

This work will be included in the Jean Dupas catalogue raisonné currently being prepared by Romain Lefebvre.
