'The Discus-thrower' (discobolus) represents the athletic ideal, and is one of the most well-known images from the ancient world. It is a copy of a lost bronze original of the fifth century BC attributed to the sculptor Myron (fl. circa 470-440 BC). A Roman copy from Hadrian's Villa in Tivoli is in the collection of the British Musuem (GR 1805.7-3.43).
