A PALE GREYISH-GREEN JADE QUADRILOBED BRUSH WASHER
17TH/18TH CENTURY
Of begonia shape and raised on four shallow bracket feet, the washer is carved in high relief with three chilong climbing up the sides to peer over the rim. There is some opaque white mottling in the semi-translucent stone.

A similar washer of yellow jade, and smaller size (10.5 cm. long), dated to the Qianlong period, from the Pine and Bamboo Collection, is illustrated in the exhibition catalogue, Virtuous Treasures: Chinese Jades for the Scholar's Table, University Museum and Art Gallery, The University of Hong Kong, 2007, p. 129, no. 61.
