Pau Font de Rubinat (1860-1948) was a politician and bibliophile who accumulated a library of 45,000 volumes; he became president of the Societat de Biblifils Catalans in 1904. Joseph or Josep Pin i Soler (1842-1927), the friend to whom he first lent and then gave this copy of Utopia, published the first translation into Catalan in 1912 (see Palau 300433). A dramatist of high repute, Pin i Soler took a special interest in translation in later life, producing a ten-volume 'Biblioteca d'Humanitats'. Palau XX, 300427; not in Goldsmith.
