Louis Solon came to England in September of 1870 and was producing pâte-sur-pâte with Mintons by October 1st. The present example was among his earliest works with the firm. Solon's Illustrated Journal records this flask as one of a pair titled 'Pêcheur' & 'Chasseur' completed between the 11th of December 1871 and the 11th of January 1872.

A closely related flask was exhibited at the 1871 London International Exhibition and is engraved at the right by the Illustrated London News. See B. Bumpus, Pâte-sur-pâte, London, 1992, p. 103.
