Lot Essay
The 14th juz' and the 21st juz' from the same Qur'an are respectively in the Kuwait National Museum (M. Jenkins, Islamic art in the Kuwait National Museum, London, 1983, p.134) and in the Nasser D. Khalili collection (D. James, After Timur, London, 1992, p.206, fig.49).
This scribe to which this juz' is attributed, 'Ali bin Muhammad bin Muqalla', also signed the 29th juz' which was sold in these Rooms, 31 March 2009, lot 51. Two further Qur'ans signed by him are now in the Nasser D. Khalili Collection and in the Museum of Turkish and Islamic Arts in Istanbul (D. James, ibid, fig.51, p.212).
