AN EXTREMELY LARGE AND IMPRESSIVE SILVER-INLAID BIDRI TABLE
BIDAR, CENTRAL INDIA, PROBABLY LATE 19TH CENTURY
Rising from wide trumpet foot through a balustered shaft to wide circular top with hanging cusped edge, the foot and shaft with inlaid silver lattice containing stylised flowerheads set between bands of scrolling flowering vine, the top with central medallion with scrolling arabesque surrounded by bands of strapwork and a floral lattice, around this a wide band of cusped palmettes containing scrolling vine with leaves on a ground of scrolling flowering vine, the edge of the table top with further bands of scrolling flowering vine and strapwork bands, the scallops with floral blooms contained inside cusped foliage, very minor losses to the silver inlay
31½in. (80cm.) high; 26½in. (67.5cm.) diam.
