TWO MAMLUK TRAYS
EGYPT, FIRST HALF 14TH CENTURY AND 15TH CENTURY
Each of circular form, the 14th century tray with raised circular centre, rounded cavetto and flat rim, originally inscribed with a fine calligraphic inscription in thuluth script, probably laudatory, interspersed with circular medallions issuing palmettes, a band of running animals and confronted lion rampant above, now very rubbed; the other a late 15th century brass tray, the centre engraved with a geometric roundel, the borders with calligraphic inscriptions in angular thuluth script in cartouches arranged between circular medallions and further strapwork in panels, rubbed
