A RARE CASED 52-BORE JAMES WEBLEY PATENT 'LONGSPUR' (THIRD MODEL) FIVE -SHOT SINGLE-ACTION PERCUSSION REVOLVER
RETAILED BY BLAKEMORE & SON, SERIAL NO. 1374, CIRCA 1857
With blued octagonal sighted barrel signed by the retailer, engraved with a band of foliage at the muzzle and rifled with three grooves, border engraved cylinder numbered from '1' to '5', border and scroll engraved frame retaining traces of original blued finish and signed 'WEBLEY'S PATENT' on the removable inspection plate, grip-strap signed 'BY HER MAJESTY'S ROYAL LETTERS PATENT', scroll engraved case-hardened hammer with short chequered spur, chequered figured walnut grips, lanyard ring, border and scroll engraved trigger-guard, and bright rammer and thumb-screw, the barrel retaining some original blued finish, Birmingham proof marks, in fitted oak case lined in dark blue baize with accessories including a Dixon 'Fireproof' revolver flask and brass single-cavity 'WD' bullet mould, the lid with circular brass escutcheon
