The second film to be released by Alexander Korda's London Films, The Private Life of Henry VIII garnered critical and popular success in both the U.S. and UK. Not only was it one of the first British films to be a hit in the United States, it was also the first non-Hollywood film to be nominated for 'Best Picture' and the first to win an Academy Award, with the lead Charles Loughton winning 'Best Actor' for his role as Henry VIII.
