AN ARCHAIC BRONZE RITUAL POURING VESSEL, YI
ZHOU DYNASTY (1100-256 BC)
The deep oval-shaped body is cast with a pouring aperture in the form of a scaly monster head with prominent eyes and fanged teeth. It is supported on three legs and the beast is applied with a tail in the form of a ring-shaped handle.
8 in. (20.3 cm.) long
Provenance
Private European Collection, acquired by the vendor's father (d.1996) who was the Belgian Consul in China from 1948-52.
