The white ground occupied by standing and kneeling figures and deities, including Ganesha and Durga, paying hommage to an enthroned couple under a wedding pavilion (mandapa), possibly Krishna and his consort Rukmini, the borders embroidered with a continuous foliate scroll, on wooden frame

Lot Essay

A coverlet of similar size and embroidered in the same style is in the Victoria and Albert Museum and attributed to Chamba, circa 1880. It depicts the marriage of Krishna and Rukmini (IS-1883, Arts of India, 1990, cat.129, p.150).
